Accountant - European Embassy

We are recruiting a rare role for a European Embassy that is situated in the Central Business District of Bangkok, that will play an essential role in managing the accounting and financial operations for a European Embassy in Thailand.

The Accounts and Administration Officer is responsible for the management of the Embassy accounts and other related administrative tasks. This role requires excellent attention to detail, initiative, and problem-solving skills. The Accounts and Administration Officer is also required to assist with the planning and implementation of Embassy events when necessary.

Duties include:

  • Accurate and timely keeping of all the Embassy’s financial records
  • Proficiently using the Embassy’s accounting software system
  • Invoice management: ensuring invoices are received quickly, checking them for errors, clearing for payment through Head of Mission / Deputy Head of Mission, making timely payments
  • Management of petty cash including the security of cash, making appropriate payments, requesting top-ups
  • Security of all cash and the Embassy checkbook during working hours and securing them at the end of the day
  • Relationship management with the Embassy bank, liaising with the bank to continuously improve services and on all relevant issues
  • Lodging of cash and cheques to the bank account and weekly reconciliation of all transactions and lodgements
  • Liaising frequently with Finance Unit at Headquarters in Dublin for financial queries, training needs, and requests
  • Regular analysis of the Embassy’s budget and immediately notifying Head of Mission / Deputy Head of Mission of any problems, shortfalls or discrepancies in the budget
  • Processing of VAT exemption and customs clearance documentation
  • Liaising with international moving companies and Thai customs authorities in order to secure the timely and efficient delivery of international shipments to the Embassy and diplomatic staff
  • Researching potential suppliers and assisting the Office Manager, Deputy Head of Mission and Head of Mission with procurement matters
  • Maintaining and developing the Embassy’s asset and inventory management systems.
  • Ongoing liaising and relationship management with the Embassy’s service providers and maintenance teams


  • University degree in Finance & Accounting field.
  • 2+ years Finance & Accounting experience in a multinational environment (preferable
  • professional services firm) or Big 4 accounting firm
  • Strong command of the English language in both written and oral communications.
  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and web-based applications.
